Guidance:
Banners work best when they're used for important updates that affect most of your patients, such as an unexpected closure or critical triage links. For general news or non-urgent updates, we recommend adding the information to relevant pages instead.
In this article:
- Adding content to the banner
- Changing the background colour of the banner
- Including an image in the banner
- Setting a temporary banner
- Enabling/disabling the banner
Adding content to the banner
To access the static content banner, you will need to open the editor menu on the left and choose 'Banners'
Within this section change the 'Select banner to edit' option to 'Content Banner'
There is a content box where you can input the content of the banner. This has a maximum character count of 800 and we recommend to keep the text as minimal as possible to avoid the banner becoming cluttered and too large.
To add a heading to your banner change the row to a header size by choosing 'Formats' in the top bar, selecting 'Headers' and then choosing the header size you'd like. As seen below, the top line is set to a Header 2.
To add a link, highlight the text you'd like to become a URL and then choose the chain icon in the icon row (third from the right). This will take you through to linking either a page, URL or file.
Once you have added the text to the content box, click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.
A banner with only text will look similar to the following:
Changing the background colour of the banner
To change the background colour of the banner, you will need to access the content banner editor (see Adding content to the banner)
In the Background Colour option, you will see your current banner colour. Below this is an option for 'Select a different colour...'. Clicking on this will give you the 12 different colour options available:
Once you have selected the colour you would like to use, click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.
Including an image in the banner
For including an image in the banner, you will need to access the content banner editor (see Adding content to the banner)
In the Logo section, there will be a 'Select Image' button where you can either upload an image, choose an image currently in use on the website or choose from the image library. If you have uploaded an image, please ensure it is correctly sized and includes an alternative tag to describe the image. For more information on the options when adding an image see Adding an image to a row as this will follow the same process from the Select Image step.
Once your logo is set, in the Position box, you can choose whether the image will display on the left or the right of the content banner.

Right:
Once you have set the logo and positioning, click 'Save' at the bottom.
Setting a temporary banner
When setting a temporary banner, you will need to access the content banner editor (see Adding content to the banner)
The 'Display until' date in this section will need to be set as the day you would like the banner to automatically turn off. When set, the banner will turn off at 11:59pm of the date selected.
Once you have set the display until date, click 'Save' at the bottom.
Enabling/disabling the banner
Once you have set up your banner, to enable it on the website you will need to change the 'Enabled Content Banner' option at the top of the Banners page to 'On'. Once set to on, click 'Save' to enable the banner.
If the banner is still not displaying, please check that the 'Display until' date in the 'Date range' section of the banner is not set to a past date.
